Parliament of Republic of Macedonia today will hold 87th session with the single point at the agenda, the draft decision for dismissing the current Parliament composition.
The initiative for dismissing the Parliament on Saturday was filed by the Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) after was not satisfied their demand for consensus candidate for president of the Republic of Macedonia.
The ruling VMRO – DPMNE on Saturday accepted proposal for the early parliamentary elections on April 27, or the second round of presidential elections. Party leader and Prime Minister Nikola Gruevski announced the position of VMRO-DPMNE at the Convention on the choice of candidate for president. Opposition SDSM, NSDP also endorsed the initiative of DUI.
According to the Constitution, Parliament is dismissed if the majority of the total number of MPs accept it.
Although the reason for DUI initiative for early parliamentary elections indicate non-accepting their proposal for consensus presidential candidate, VMRO – DPMNE believe that the reason for the initiative for DUI’s request to get one out of the three leading positions in the country.
- VMRO – DPMNE do not succumb to blackmail and threats. It is already clear why they seek consensus candidate, so they will not get it, and as they openly announced, to try to collapse the presidential election, and then push it to change the Constitution in order parties rather than citizens to choose President. However, it is not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is the assumption that if VMRO does not get 62 MPs in the parliamentary elections to pose condition, to request one of the three positions – Prime Minister, President of the Assembly or President of State to be nominated by DUI, Gruevski said at the Convention for choosing the presidential candidate.
SDSM, however, urged the Government to immediately propose amendments to the Electoral Code, which does not provide possibilities for matching the parliamentary elections with presidential, to solve the problem with two different deadlines for locking the voter list, with respect to deadlines for election campaign and the media presentation.
