Low-cost airlines move up the aviation transport, subsidies have encouraged the development of tourism in the country.
This was topic of Minister of Transport and Communications Mile Janakieski discussed in Dnevnik at the MRT.
- In 2013, we managed to overcome the famous figure of one million passengers. Airport “Alexander the Great” was again announced for the best airport in Europe, in the category up to two million passengers. Ohrid Municipality will soon publish public call to find company that will establish direct line from Ohrid to European destinations. With that, we will further move up the tourism in Ohrid. For the moment being, we are following the contract Wizz Air, which expires next year. Government is preparing new package which should be published in 2015, said Janakieski for MRT.
Subsidies, he pointed, were proved as excellent move for dramatical increase of the number of passengers, but more importantly, the Macedonian citizens were allowed to travel cheaply to European destinations.
I expect that as early as this month will start construction work on the reconstruction of the railway station in Skopje, which should last for period of nine months. So sometime early next year, we will have fully reconstructed railway station, said Janakieski.
