Branko Geroski and opposition insulted members of the Roma community by taking away the right to express their opinion and say what is good and what is not. At this point, we wonder how Geroski put himself in a position to say who has the right to say something, and who doesn’t.
Roma in Macedonia are not allowed to say anything about what they like. After the yesterday’s statement of members of the Association of Roma from municipality Center that they like the building “Parrot” and that it is in the Roma style, opposition portals began to write that Roma were allegedly abused for political purposes.
Texts for alleged abuse of Roma are actually an insult to the members of this community by the opposition portals and journalists close to the opposition.
It remains unclear where the opposition media saw the abuse, does Roma have the right to express their opinion and say something like. The entire public is confused by the opposition’s anger and hatred. Is Branko Geroski the one to tell the citizens what is good and what is not and whether certain things should be liked or not.
Sociologists contacted by Kurir believe that no one can take away the right of Roma people to express their view about something they like, in this case building “Parrot” whose facade was made by Zernovski.
Sociologist Dr. Ivana Todevska in a statement to Kurir says that Roma people have a right to express their opinion, and it should not be connected to political context.
- The most important thing is that there was a media fuss over the building and some of the involved parties should not be involved on any grounds. I think that the Association of Roma Center can give an opinion, but it is nothing particularly important for media. There should be political context nor local governments have to do something with it, she says.
Roma believe that no one should deprive them of the right to express an opinion about something they like. They are revolted against opposition’s media attempts to judge whether they may or may not express their opinion.
- Do those who forbid us to express our opinion on whether something we like or not are not the same who stand for freedom of speech, a member of the Roma community says.
