Ex – rapporteur for Macedonia in EP sentenced to two and a half years in prison for corruption

Former rapporteur for Macedonia in the European Parliament, Slovenian Zoran Thaler was sentenced to two and a half years in prison and fined for corruption while he was a deputy in the European Parliament.

He was caught in a corruption scandal. Thaler “hung” on the hook of the English Sunday Times which journalist posing as lobbyists asked him to mediate for the adoption of some of the laws in Parliament for a reward of EUR 100,000.

Slovenian police filed charges against Thaler, and he then bargained with the prosecution.

- I formally plead guilty with that agreement, Thaler said who got fined EUR 15,000 which will be donated to the pediatric clinic in Ljubljana, and he will serve prison sentence at the end of each week. He also will have no right to be employed in the public service for five years.

Along with Thaler, the Sunday Times bait captured Austrian, Romanian and Spanish MEP.

Thaler was a man close to the SDSM, who abuse his power and brought harm to Macedonia. He accused that some people in Macedonia are trying to change history.

Working against Macedonian interests, he always found space to praise the opposition in Macedonia, protecting his party friends.
